A Human Perspective on Health Care

For those of you who did or did not watch Keith Olbermann's hour long Special Comment on Health Care, I must describe it simply as human. During the hour long special Mr. Olbermann gave no impression of an exterior political or philosophical motive, but instead simplified the issue to what it really is: a matter of life and death. We all need health care to help manage or quality of life and hopefully prevent untimely deaths. Issue is not where the health care comes from or ones preference over public or private businesses, but instead the quality of the service one receives. Keith Olbermann shares the opinion of many Americans in that he feels the private health insurers, and not doing an acceptable job. He knows the poor product that the private insurers are selling first hand from having to help his ailing father and the recent passing of his mother. This belief that all Americans should have an affordable, and quality alternative to the private insurers is a personal stance based on first hand experience instead of any sort of political affiliation. That is how it should be.
Too often this issue has been splint distinctly down political party lines, and we all need to know that your political party should have nothing to do with the issue. Your political party should not be your life, and it will not prevent or postpone your death. Health care is about life and death, so it should trump all other variables. The maintaining of a quality life, and the hopeful postponement of death should not cost one their financial security, but sadly that is what it is becoming today, and that is why we need an alternative. The alternative cannot come from the private sector, since they are the cause of the problem, so it must now come from the public sector and that is the government. This issue is this simple. Luckily for us the government has a vested interest in our health and longevity.
We all need to thank Keith Olbermann for sharing his family's struggle with health care, and allow us to see the human perspective on health care. He rose above the debate, and politics, and told us what we needed to know. This issue is about life and death, and that should be more important than everything else.
I highly recommend that everyone visit Countdown with Keith Olbermann's page on MSNBC's website to watch his Special Comment on health care reform if you have not already done so. Go HERE.
